View Royal Childcare was established with the intention of offering exceptionally high-quality childcare, specifically targeting communities where early learning services were either limited or unavailable.

Origins and Early Operations

The organization began as View Royal Preschool, initially located in the View Royal Community Hall—a historic two-story building constructed in 1934. Since March 1997, the preschool operated from the lower level of the hall, providing families with a nurturing environment and developmentally appropriate programs for young children.

Expansion and Program Development

In 2013, the business was acquired by new management. By September 2014, operations expanded to include a full-day childcare program in the upper hall, complementing the existing preschool program in the lower hall.

Pandemic Impact and Program Restructuring

The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 had a significant effect on enrollment, prompting a restructuring of the preschool program. It transitioned into a Preschool Structured Daycare Program operating solely in the lower hall, with the upstairs program discontinued. This program continues today at 279 Island Highway for children aged 3–5 years, now known as Shining Stars.

Growth and New Facilities

Supported by a dedicated and highly qualified staff, View Royal Childcare rebuilt enrollment and enhanced its reputation. In April 2018, the organization expanded by opening the Belmont Early Learning Centre within Belmont Secondary School. This licensed facility served infants, toddlers, and preschoolers (ages 3–5). After seven years, the lease ended in 2025.

In 2024, View Royal Childcare launched a purpose-built facility in Langford: View Royal Childcare@ Strathmore, located at 2773 Strathmore Road.

Programs designed especially for you.

The preschool structured daycare program (Shining Stars) is designed to meet the needs of young families in the community. This program would also meet the developmental needs of preschool aged children and help to prepare them for Kindergarten.

Service Area and Community Reach

The two View Royal Childcare locations serve young families across several communities, including View Royal, Esquimalt, Saanich, Colwood, Langford, Bear Mountain, Metchosin, and Sooke. By providing early learning and childcare programs at both 279 Island Highway and 2773 Strathmore Road, the organization ensures accessible and supportive care for children and their families throughout these regions.

All programs are inclusive and both facilities are approved for Affordable Child Care Benefit (ACCB), Child Care Fee Reduction Initiative (CCFRI), and Child Care Operating Funding (CCOF).
